FAQ
Everything people ask us about the beans, the blocks, storing it, cooking it and where to find it.
Buying Toombi
Toombi is stocked by independent grocers, health food shops and a growing number of farm shops. Send us your postcode through the contact form and we will point you at the nearest one.
No — this site is here to tell you about the products and where to find them. We supply shops, cafés and kitchens rather than selling online.
Ingredients
Yes. All of our soya is certified organic and non-GM, grown in Europe and traceable back to the farms that grow it.
Organic soya beans, spring water and a natural mineral coagulant. That is the full list. No preservatives, no gums, no anti-foaming agents.
The plain blocks and the soya milk contain no gluten ingredients. Our marinated tofu contains tamari, which is gluten free, but if you are coeliac please check the pack — full allergen information is printed on every product.
Storing & cooking
Keep it refrigerated and eat within the date on the pack. Once opened, cover the block in fresh water in a sealed container, change the water daily, and use within three days.
Not for the Extra Firm — it comes out of the pack ready to cook. For the Firm block, a few minutes under a weight or a good pat down with a tea towel gets you a better crust.
You can, and it changes the texture in a way a lot of people like — it becomes chewier and spongier, so it soaks up marinade beautifully. Drain it, freeze it in the block, then thaw and squeeze before cooking.
Sustainability
Yes. The trays and tubs are widely recyclable kerbside, and the film lid goes in with soft plastics at larger supermarkets. We are working towards removing the film entirely.
Trade
We do. Get in touch through the contact form with a rough idea of volumes and your location, and we will come back to you with a trade list.
